This guide exists because emergency medicine interviews are not like other specialty interviews — and most interview advice online is generic. "Be yourself." "Research the program." None of it tells you what to actually say when an EM program director is trying to picture you in the resuscitation bay at 3 a.m.

Dr. Eye MD interviewed across 20+ residency programs and went on to coach hundreds of applicants through interviews across specialties. Along the way he built an EM-specific playbook: what program directors actually screen for (calm under pressure, decisiveness with incomplete information, team play in chaos, genuine love of undifferentiated patients, shift-work temperament), repeatable answer structures for every question EM applicants get, and the SLOE and away-rotation strategies no other guide covers. That playbook became this guide.

Read each question once for the framework, then draft your own answer using the same structure. Do not memorize the sample answers word for word — interviewers can spot a scripted response. Borrow the structure and fill it with your own stories. That is the whole method: genuineness, delivered with structure.
